As part of our mission, Frederick County Workforce Services (FCWS) sets out to identify the current needs of our local business community and works to address those needs through a combination of innovative services and training programs.
Case in point: The need for skilled administrative professionals spans across industries and without a pool of qualified candidates, businesses often face difficulties recruiting and maintaining a qualified workforce. In an effort to support local businesses facing this challenge, FCWS partnered with Frederick Community College and developed a customized training program that would prepare individuals for entry-level employment as an administrative assistant or office support professional.
During the recent 5-week course, participants honed their skills in business writing, records management, event planning, business travel coordination, business finance and operations, and hands on skill development in MS Office applications. The program provided participants with a pathway to earning the MS Office Specialist Certification in Word 2016 and Excel 2016. Students completed the program having gained a solid understanding of the many facets of providing professional administrative support and the skills required to meet the demands of entry-level administrative positions in a variety of business environments.
FCWS supports a variety of career training programs to help prepare eligible job seekers and incumbent workers meet the needs of our local industries. Some upcoming training programs will prepare individuals for entry-level employment as Dental Assistants, Medical Assistants, and HVAC Technicians.
