Jake Blackmon, 25

Jake graduated early from the University of Maryland with a BS in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics in 2017 and stepped up to help his family run Smoketown Brewing "temporarily." After a short time, it was apparent that he loved being a part of the family business and believed in the dream that his father started with Smoketown. He has been Director of Operations for over 4 years where he is in charge of HR, taxes, sales, distribution, social media/marketing, and the taproom for both breweries. He has helped grow the business from a single location in their hometown to two separate locations with beer that can be found across the state and in Virginia.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
Member of the Brewer's Association of Maryland and the National Brewer's Association
What is your experience with civic engagement?
I have served on numerous committees, including Frederick Speaker Series, Nonprofit Alliance, Hood College’s Board of Associates, Leadership Frederick, The Community Needs Assessment Task Force, Women’s Giving Circle, Nonprofit Summit.
What was your first job?
My very first job was as a server at Hollowcreek Golf Course in Middletown.
What do you like to do for fun in Frederick County?
I love to visit all of the amazing restaurants that Frederick has to offer.
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work and why?
I owe a lot of my approach and critical thinking to my dad. He taught me everything I know about how to approach business.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Delivering Smoketown beer to retailers across the country.
