In the last 7 years the Town of Thurmont has raised nearly $100,000 for the Patty Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund at Frederick Health Hospital. This year, at the town meeting with Mayor Kinnaird and Board of Commissioners, the town presented a check for $15,300 for the Patty Hurwitz Fund.
Local businesses who supported the cause spoke at the meeting and Vickie Grinder, Economic Development Manager, provided an inspiring presentation and spoke about how the community has come together:
“Our 7th Annual Gateway to the Cure will most certainly be a memorable one! It was a challenge but we knew we had to continue the journey and still find a safe way to continue to raise some funding for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund at Frederick Health. Our businesses (and a few in the county) stepped up along with our residents and participants in our 5K and golf tournament. This year we raised $15,300 which is absolutely amazing. The 7th annual is definitely heartfelt because many of the businesses were shut down and are still operating a limited capacity. Thanks to our businesses, residents, and volunteers, we have donated an impressive $98,000 in seven years to the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund at Frederick Health. Wow! What a wonderful community Thurmont is!”
