Opportunities for the Youngest Members of the Local Workforce

Have you heard about the Youth WORKS! Summer Jobs Program? Youth WORKS! is an annual program run by Frederick County Workforce Services, which gives the youngest members of our local workforce opportunities for summer employment.

The program has had several names and iterations over the years, but for decades Frederick County youth have participated in this program. Youth WORKS! participants all face some sort of barrier to employment such as a disability or low-income family status. In partnership with local businesses and other community agencies participants spend six weeks of their summer working part-time in a variety of businesses all over Frederick County. Through these meaningful work experiences youth learn job skills, grow in self-confidence, gain experience to add to their resume, and are introduced to various careers. Past participants have discovered areas of career interest which have driven their plans for future training and education, and also developed long term professional mentoring relationships.

This program is great for Frederick County businesses too! Local businesses serve as worksites for participating youth, and through grant funding, Frederick County Workforce Services covers their pay. Youth WORKS! is an opportunity for businesses to get a little extra help for the summer, but more importantly to contribute to the development of local youth by allowing them an opportunity to be part of the valuable work that is done all across Frederick County every day.
