OED Makes Connections at 2017 BIO International Convention

Frederick County OED kicked off summer with a strong and dynamic presence at the 2017 BIO International Convention, June 19-22 in San Diego. With more than 16,000 attendees from 48 states and 74 countries, BIO is the largest international life sciences conference. OED partnered with the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development (DED) to exhibit in the Maryland Pavilion, organized by the Maryland Department of Commerce and featuring more than 20 companies, organizations and regions throughout the state.

BIO provides an opportunity to connect face-to-face with hundreds of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and professionals; attend educational sessions that enhance OED’s knowledge and understanding of this key industry sector; and to network with other organizations that can provide support to existing Frederick County companies.

In addition to the convention and exhibit hall activities, the OED team participated in several smaller events throughout the week, including “East Meets West and Beyond: Financing in the Biotech Space in the US and Australia,” hosted by the Maryland Tech Council and DLA Piper. The event focused on venture capital in biotech, and opportunities for US companies to explore research opportunities overseas.

OED was joined by Trideum, Foxspire and Azabu Distilling – all three companies are clients of the Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc (FITCI), Frederick’s technology and life sciences business incubator.
