National Cancer Institute and Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research Technology Showcase Award

The National Cancer Institute and Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research Technology Showcase recently received the 2021 State and Local Economic Development Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer.  The Technology Showcase takes places at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNL) and is a collaboration between both the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.  Originating in 2017, it highlights technologies that are being developed at NCI and FNL to encourage possible licensing and collaborations for the benefit of patients.  This is a great opportunity for companies of all sizes to look at the new technologies and form partnerships. This past year, due to COVID, the event was held virtually on September 9th, 2020.

This event has the support of economic development organizations, including Frederick County Office of Economic Development and the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development.  These organizations support the event by providing marketing and promotion in the area and by providing connections in the business community for collaboration during the event.

In January 2021 with all the collaborations between NCI, FNL and local economic development organizations, the Technology Showcase was selected to receive 2021 State and Local Economic Development Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC).  The FLC is the Congressionally mandated organization that educates, promotes and facilitates Federal Technology Transfer.

“We are very excited and honored to receive the 2021 State and Local Economic Development Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer. Both the National Cancer Institute and Frederick National Lab are active members within FLC, and this award is a true recognition of our efforts to create a successful event that focuses on tech transfer, licensing and partnership development in concert with our state and local economic development partners. We look forward to continuing this event in 2021 and welcome all interested parties to learn about it for themselves” shared Vladimir Popov, PhD, Director of Partnership Development Office at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

This event has always been supported by County Executive Jan Gardner and the Office of Economic Development.  “Receiving this recognition from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer reminds us of the importance of this event and excites us for years to come” shared Solash Aviles-Montanez Senior Business Development Manager for Frederick County’s Office of Economic Development.  Plans are underway for the 2021 event to be held on September 1st, 2021.
