Mayta's Peruvian Cuisine: Bringing Peru to Frederick, Maryland

A small slice of Peru in Frederick, Maryland – that’s what restaurant-goers are promised at Mayta’s Peruvian Cuisine, located along Buckeystown Pike near Westview Promenade.

Jorge Valesquez owns Mayta’s, along with his wife, Melissa Ortiz. The restaurant first opened in 2014 and the couple added a food truck into the mix in 2017. Since expanding into a larger space (just a few doors down from their original location) in July of 2022, Mayta’s has been able to enhance its upscale dining experience. The restaurant now has more space, a patio for outdoor dining and an expanded menu. They now offer pollo a la brasa, which is a blackened/charcoaled rotisserie chicken, known as a signature Peruvian dish. The restaurant proudly uses authentic fresh ingredients and works with local companies on everything from food distribution to alcohol. Their new location has a bar area to enhance the dining experience for customers, which includes Peruvian beer made from purple corn, quinoa and white corn. And while Mayta’s new space in the former Sushi Densha location is working out perfectly, Jorge and Malissa still own their original location just a few doors down, which is now Al Dente Italian Cuisine. They also still operate the Mayta’s Peruvian Cuisine food truck, which can often be spotted around Frederick County.

You can find Mayta’s Peruvian Cuisine at 5010 Buckeystown Pike #148, Frederick, MD 21704. For more information on the restaurant and their daily specials, as well as the food truck schedule, visit www.maytacuisine.com.
