Looking Back on Business Appreciation Week 2022

In October, the Frederick County Office of Economic Development celebrated its 22nd year of Frederick County Business Appreciation Week (BAW). This annual event is the county’s largest retention effort, sending teams of ambassadors out to visit more than 100 businesses across Frederick County. Between October 24 and October 28, 108 businesses were visited. 71 of the visits were in person, while 37 were done virtually over Zoom. The largest companies visited during the week included Lonza, Precision for Medicine, FoodPRO Corporation, Wilcoxon Sensing Technologies and Image Direct. The purpose of these visits is to thank businesses for choosing Frederick County as home, and to check in and offer resources. Of the businesses visited during BAW, the top concerns were marketing and communications, workforce and networking opportunities. The majority of BAW businesses from 2022 said that business has been better this year than last year, and over half of them have plans to expand.

The theme for Business Appreciation Week 2022 was “There’s No Place Like Frederick County.” When ambassadors talked to the businesses about why they love doing business in Frederick County, the number one answer was quality of workforce, followed by location and quality of life.
