Let’s Go Shop Small

Kick off your holiday shopping on November 26th. Small Business Saturday is a day to support local businesses and is recognized each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The best gift you can give local businesses is your support.

By choosing to shop local, you are also supporting your community.  An estimated 67 cents for every dollar spent stays within the community. That means that over half of what you spend will circulate to support local jobs and services. SCORE found that small businesses donate 250 percent more than larger businesses to local nonprofits and community causes. Small businesses help create a vibrant community and are the heartbeat of our economy.

This year, we encourage you to participate in Small Business Saturday by shopping local, but also challenge you to think about supporting businesses in other ways such as using social media to share your shopping experience.

This year American Express has collaborated with Chlöe Bailey by adding a new TikTok sound for Small Business Saturday.  You can use this custom sound in your #ShopSmall post to show your finds and give small businesses a boost. It’s a great way to show love for the local spots you frequent most and just maybe help a small business go viral.

You can also support local businesses by spreading the word among your friends. Word of mouth is an excellent way to promote your favorite shopping spots in your neighborhood. Bring them with you the next time you shop.

If you can’t find the perfect gift for that someone, a gift card is the next best thing to support local.
