Frederick’s 2018 Top 50 Businesses Revealed

Frederick’s Top 50 businesses were revealed today in a special publication of the January 2018 Frederick Magazine. This new initiative – Frederick’s Top 50 – is a partnership between OED and Frederick Magazine that highlights the 50 companies in Frederick County that have the largest potential to contribute to the county’s vibrant economy.

To develop the list, OED identified a variety of data points that are important in economic development, such as the number of Frederick-based jobs, local property taxes paid, how many square feet the business occupies in the county, and how long the company has been in business (longevity). With the help of students from Hood College, these factors were weighted and companies given a score – and thus was born the 2018 list of Frederick’s Top 50 Companies.

More than simply a list of companies, Frederick Magazine’s team of talented writers took a deep dive into the stories behind Frederick’s thriving economy. From a highlight of our manufacturing industry and the history of some of Frederick’s longest-running businesses, to global organizations headquartered right here and Frederick’s unique food industry, these stories give a glimpse into the rich heritage, diversity and global impact of Frederick’s Top 50.
