Q: What is your business and what goods/services do you provide?
A: I am the owner of Roadhouse Jerk, a restaurant located in Point of Rocks (Frederick County) Maryland. We offer an authentic Jamaican experience through our cuisine.

Q: What inspired you to start your own business?
A: I have always loved being in the kitchen. Cooking is a deeply held passion of mine. There is something gratifying about introducing and serving a community through the culinary dishes that we create every day. I have always been drawn to serve, and I served 20+ years in the US Navy. I retired as a Chief in 2017. After a rewarding career, I still felt the need to serve. I decided to pursue my passion of cooking by opening Roadhouse Jerk out of a desire to share my knowledge of authentic Jamaican cuisine with the community where we live.

Q: What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?A: I was born and raised in May Pen, Jamaica, and grew up surrounded by a luscious selection of produce right in our backyard. There were very little imports of any kind, so self-sufficient farming became the backbone of island living. Watching my family grow and use their own ingredients for every meal inspired my palate from an early age. After migrating to New York, both of my parents opened Jamaican restaurants. While I was serving in the Navy, I decided to hone my skills further and enroll in culinary school for restaurant management.

Q: What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?
A: I’m inspired every time I go home to Jamaica and try a dish that reminds me of my youth. I enjoy creating dishes and watching our customers' enthusiastic responses after trying something new and out of their comfort zone. The community has been incredibly supportive, and we are thrilled to bring them fresh home-cooked food, daily. I think what sets us apart is our love for jerk! This spring, we are expanding our menu and will be grilling authentic jerk menu items right on the grill. You don’t want to miss it!

Q: Why do you enjoy doing business in Frederick County?
A: Maryland is known as a great place to start a new business and I couldn't agree more! We decided to bring our culture to this amazing town of Point of Rocks. We’ve met people from all over who have shared personal stories of their visits to Jamaica. It’s amazing to hear about their experiences with the food and culture. We enjoy having a presence in our community. We are located on the C&O Canal, across the street from the Point of Rocks MARC Train Station. The local community and the county have been incredibly supportive. Ever since our inception, we’ve received support from those traveling through our area and those who live nearby. We appreciate every one of them!
