Meet Jarad “DJ Genius” Bowens, Owner and Lead DJ of Benefactor Events, established in 2020. Jarad is also a graduate of the 2022 FCOED EmPOWER Mentorship Program. Lets get to know him and his business!
Q: What is your business and what goods/services do you provide?
A: Benefactor Events is a full service Mobile DJ and Entertainment company serving the Frederick, MD and greater DMV areas. We provide DJs and MCs for Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Birthday Parties, School Events, Corporate Events, Community and Charitable Events and much more!
We have an amazing team of professional entertainers to help create the perfect event for your needs. Our DJs are trained in the “Art” of DJing and are not just pressing “next” on a playlist. Our MC’s are clear, personable, and always there to get the crowd engaged and deliver those announcements with style. Our music library is unmatched and we can play any style or genre of music to keep your guests on the dance floor.
We strive to create a smooth and fun event process from booking to event day and our online client access system helps deliver just that. We are community focused and dedicated to giving back to the people we serve. Q: What inspired you to start your own business?
A: My inspiration came from the recession back in 2007 and not being able to find work. I always wanted to start a DJ company and use the skills I had acquired to entertain people.
Q: What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?
A: I have a varied background including a brief military career where I served on a submarine and ran a sonar console. I have held almost every type of job you can think of from “cold call” and “door knock” sales, to restaurant and hospitality work, and even office work as well. I was an activities coordinator of an assisted living facility for a while, I was also a leasing director for an apartment complex at one point so I have a vast experience base. These jobs gave me customer service, people management, hospitality and client management skills as well as basic computer and office skills.
Q: What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?
A: What inspires me is a love of people and a love of music. My love for the “art” of DJing and how it connects people through different music genres and exposes them to sounds they may not have heard and songs they love is what drives me. My love of people and the connections we form and the shared experience of being at an event and having a good time is a big inspiration. My love for serving the community allows me to use my skills and talents to impact the people around me through music and expression and that is the driving force behind Benefactor Events.
Q: Why do you enjoy doing business in Frederick County?
A: This county is very supportive, very eager to serve and give back, and full of warm and loving people who have made doing business here a real pleasure. The wealth of support, resources, and opportunity here is why we call this county our home.
