Ellume USA continues to make significant impacts and was recently awarded Trade & Industry Development Corporate Investment and Community Impact (CiCi) Award in the Community Impact category. Ellume is one of only 14 projects in the nation that has earned this distinction and the economic development project was recognized as one of the nation’s top community impact and corporate investment projects of the preceding year. The CiCi Award winners are selected based on company investment in a community, new jobs, training opportunities and development.
In May 2021, Ellume, an Australian-based company, announced plans to locate its U.S. headquarters in Frederick County. It will produce tests for infectious diseases, including at home rapid tests for COVID-19 to support ongoing U.S. pandemic preparation and response. The Ellume at home test kit is one of the few over-the-counter COVID-19 antigen home test that has been clinically tested and authorized for use without symptoms in a single test.
The Ellume project was approved for Turbo Fast Track Permitting and completed its initial permitting within only 7 months. The company’s plan is to occupy 180,000 square feet in two buildings on Executive Court South in the Progress Labs Center 85 corporate park. The project is expected to create 1,500 new jobs by the end of 2022. The company began operations recently.
“Frederick County is thrilled that Ellume has received this national recognition for this critically important public health project. Ellume hit the ground running with engagement and has already made such a significant impact in our community. It’s presence in Frederick enhances our strong and growing resident life sciences cluster. Congratulations to the entire Ellume team!” said Beth Woodring, Director of Business Attraction and Marketing.
