Art is coming to your Main Street! This fall, the five Main Street communities of Frederick County — Brunswick, Thurmont, Middletown, New Market and Downtown Frederick — will be installing temporary public art sculptures in each of our downtowns… and we need your help!
The sculptures, designed and created by Maryland artist Parran Collery, will be composed of brightly glazed mosaic tile designs and will be in place for one year. Originally, each community planned to host a hands-on community art workshop in the spring of 2020 to create more than 300 tiles for these sculptures. However, as we do our best to keep our communities safe, we have re-imagined the community workshops into virtual art projects.
By lending your creativity to this project, your artwork will become part of a public project, and your artistic hand will join with others to create a vibrant and joyful vision! Up to 60 submissions from each of the Main Street areas will be translated into individual clay tiles that will be included in the final sculpture. All of us have a creative spirit in our hearts, and this project is open to anyone who has the desire – no special skills needed.
