Frederick will soon have a new place to kick back, relax, and watch the latest movies. We were recently able to tour the under-construction Warehouse Cinemas along the Golden Mile. This 10-screen premium movie theater features luxury recliners and a quick serve restaurant with a menu of creative comfort foods. The theater will also feature a full service bar with 28 beers on tap, including number of locally-crafted brews from right here in Frederick. Movie-goers will have a full experience from the state-of-the-art sound and projection system, down to the details like seat warmers built into the cozy recliners.
The theater is located in the former Frederick Towne Mall at 1301 W. Patrick Street, which was newly renamed “District 40.” Rich Daughtridge, President and CEO of HighRock Group told us, “We chose this location because it had good bones. We looked for years and this opportunity was brought to us and we thought it would be a great location.” Warehouse Cinemas will not only bring new entertainment to this stretch of West Patrick Street, but a number of new jobs as well. The theater has already hired 45 people and is planning to eventually bring on 70-80 more team members.
Organizers are hopeful that Frederick’s newest movie theater can open at a limited capacity within the next few weeks. With COVID-19 still impacting everyday life, a number of protocols will be implemented to ensure the safety of movie-goers. These include requiring masks to be worn when entering the theater, a buffer of 2 seats between people, and special attention to cleaning including the use of a UV fogger system.
There won’t be a box office at Warehouse Cinemas, but instead kiosks at the theater for people to get tickets. Movie tickets can also be purchased online, and the website is expected to be ready in about a week at www.warehousecinemas.com.
