Frederick County draws from one of the largest, most technologically advanced labor forces with approximately 2.9 million workers in Maryland.  Maryland claims the top spot in the country for the percentage of technical and professional workers in the workplace (25.7%), for the total number of doctoral scientists and engineers as a percentage of total employment (0.98%), and is first among the states in the percentage of population 25 and over with a graduate or professional degree (15.7%). 

And Frederick County is reaping the benefits.

  • Frederick County had the 3rd highest number of new jobs created in Maryland from 2nd Quarter 2000-2007, or 15,573 new jobs.

  • Frederick County has the 2nd highest labor force participation rate in the State of Maryland at 72% while the state average is 69.2%.

  • Frederick County Workforce Investment Area (WIA) ranks 3rd among WIAs in the percentage of doctoral scientists and engineers as a percentage of total employment (3.0%)

  • Frederick County ranks 5th in the state of Maryland in Bachelor's degree attainment (32.9%), 5th in the state for Advanced degee attainment (13.3%) and 4th in the state for high school diploma attainment (91.4%).
