Frederick County Technology IncubatorThe Frederick County Office of Economic Development (OED) established the county’s first technology incubator in 2004 at Hood College in Frederick, MD. The incubator, Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity whose mission is to provide a supportive environment to help Frederick County entrepreneurs achieve success by encouraging technological innovation and accelerating the development of commercially viable technology-based entities. Since then, the demand has far exceeded the space available and thus, a second location was added in 2007. Together, the two facilities can support up to 80 client employees. The headquarters of the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc., or FITCI, is located in facilities on Hood’s campus, providing access to the school's resources, including existing facilities on campus and faculty and student research capabilities. FITCI's new site is located at 4539 Metropolitan Court in Frederick. With the addition of this state-of-the art facility, FITCI has expanded to over 20,000 square feet for a total of 35 offices and 16 laboratories available under flexible lease terms. The creation and on-going operation of the facility is the result of collaborative efforts and support from the Frederick County Office of Ecnonomic Development, Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, the Technology Development Corporation of Maryland, Frederick County, the City of Frederick, and Fort Detrick.
