Greater Washington/Baltimore Region Facts
- The Washington-Baltimore area ranks second overall among U.S.
metropolitan areas in the number of IT professionals certified
in cyber defense technologies. In a recent study conducted by
Brainbench Inc., Washington-Baltimore ranks among the top five
in the categories of disaster recovery and planning, internet
security, network security, TCP/IP administration and WAN technologies.
According to the report, these five technology areas "are
considered key elements in mounting and maintaining an effective
defense against attacks on an organization's physical and logical
IT infrastructure."

- Washington metro ranks seventh among the nation's "Most
Wired Cities" in 2002, according to Yahoo Internet Life magazine.
DC Metro ranks fourth in domains per 1,000 firms (2,860), sixth
in online spending per online user ($237), and ninth in the percentage
of households using the Internet (68.9%). Baltimore metro ranks
19th in the 2002 survey, jumping from 46th place the previous
year. It also rated as having one of the seven best local government
websites in the nation.
