Fort Detrick Business Development

Fort Detrick is an economic powerhouse for Frederick County, as well as the State of Maryland.  The military installation is the County's largest employer and is home to the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI-Frederick), National Interagency Biodefense Campus and 38 mission partners.  In support of Fort Detrick and Frederick County's continued growth and vitality, OED has worked to develop critical economic infrastructure over the past several years, including, but not limited to:

Fort Detrick Business Development Office

• The Fort Detrick Business Development Office serves as the single point-of-contact between Fort Detrick and the business community.  These business relationships support access to and navigation through the complex government procurement process.  The FDBDO also facilitates technology transfer through the Fort Detrick Technology Transfer Initiative (FDTTI).  Click here for more information on the FDBDO.

Fort Detrick Technology Transfer Initiative

• The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and the Frederick County Office of Economic Development have contracted with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) to facilitate transfer of technology. Technology development projects will be considered within the scope of the Fort Detrick Technology Transfer Initiative (FDTTI) if the company can show how the proposed technology will meet the technology needs of USAMRMC (Spin-In) and/or the commercialization of USAMRMC technologies (Spin-Out). Fort Detrick Alliance

• Fort Detrick Alliance is an organization that exists to promote economic development through, among other things, the creation of new jobs, by promoting the movement of new business organizations, industry, and business opportunities (both governmental and private) to Fort Detrick, in Frederick, Maryland, and to encourage the retention of existing industry and businesses in Fort Detrick.  Click here for more information on the Alliance.

Frederick Regional Bio-Medical Research & Expansion and BRAC Action Plan

• The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) established the Frederick Regional Expansion at Detrick (FRED) Commission to assist the County and the region in an effort to respond to the changes that will accompany the Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and the Bio-Medical Research & Defense Expansion of Fort Detrick.  The BOCC asked the Commission to establish and update an Action Plan and evaluate the implementation of this plan quarterly.  Successful implementation of the plan will require cooperation among city, county, regional, state and federal agencies and private sector partners.  It is important to note that the Frederick Regional Bio-Medical Research & Defense and BRAC Action Plan is a working document as actions and priorities will change and will be updated as more information becomes available.  Click here to view a PDF version of the Action Plan.
