Frederick County is home to more than 20 Green companies including BP Solar, the US Department of Agriculture, and Focus Forward on Green, a renewable energy demonstration facility through the Great Frederick Fair. Frederick County is number one in the state in the number of organic farms, and second for the total value of organic farms.

The Renewable/Sustainable industries enjoy Frederick County's low tax structure, fast track permitting assistance and lower development costs. Start-up companies also benefit from Frederick's commitment to two high-tech incubator locations, Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. (FITCI), FITCI's mission also includes the support of Renewable/Sustainable companies.

Frederick County Economic Development Agriculture Programs

Focus Forward on Green: The Great Frederick Fair

Maryland "Green" Programs

Maryland, one of 10 states participating in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, is a strong supporter of a wide variety of energy funding assistance programs. Tax credits, loan and grant programs are available for business and residential applications through the Maryland Energy Administration. Solar Grants
Funding of up to $10,000 to install qualified solar energy systems in homes and commercial buildings

Geothermal Heat Pump Grants
Up to $10,000 to install qualified geothermal heat pumps

Green Building Tax Credit
Tax credit for the construction or rehab of a green building worth up to 8% of the total construction cost of one building. The building must be at least 20,000 SF.

BioHeat Tax Credit Heat Program
Up to $500 for individuals and corporations that purchase BioHeating Oil for the purpose of space and water heating.

Clean Energy Production Tax Credit
A production tax credit for electricity generated by wind, geothermal energy, solar energy, hydropower, small irrigation power, municipal solid waste and biomass resources.

Windswept Grant Program
Helps offset a portion of the cost of small scale wind energy projects.

Farm Energy Audit Program
Helps reduce farm energy costs through farm energy audits and incentives for qualifying energy savings projects.
