![]() Advanced TechnologyWorld Class Advanced Technology PartnershipsAdvanced technology companies will find in Frederick County, Maryland, a prime location for the hub of their global ventures. The IT industry in Frederick County is comprised of various telecommunications, networking, web development and consulting firms. Frederick County ranks 2nd in Maryland for the number of new information technology jobs created per capita, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. As the state's largest industry cluster, representing 52% of the state's establishments, we invite you to learn more about the more than 1,900 established information technology firms with a presence in Maryland. In 2009, our office helped launch a new initiative called TechFrederick to connect Frederick's information technology businesses through advocacy, partnerships and communication. Fort Detrick Technology Transfer InitiativeThe Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and the Frederick County Office of Economic Development have contracted with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) to facilitate transfer of technology. Technology development projects will be considered within the scope of the FDTTI if the company can show how the proposed technology will meet the technology needs of USAMRMC (Spin-In) and/or the commercialization of USAMRMC technologies (Spin-Out). Funding for the FDTTI is provided by Congress. FDTTI awards of up to $50,000 will be made to for-profit small businesses in support of technology development projects that fall within the scope of the FDTTI. Assistance in identifying whether or not a technology meets USAMRMC needs (see BAA 08-1) and in forming technology transfer collaborations is available from the points of contact listed. Applicants may submit a white paper describing the technology insertion opportunity for assistance in finding a USAMRMC collaboration. Proposals for FDTTI funding may be submitted with an approved USAMRMC collaboration. Frederick Innovative Technology CenterThe Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc. (FITCI) is Frederick County's first business incubator. FITCI offers local entrepreneurs facilities, services, and an environment in which they can prosper. The facilities offer a supportive environment for Information Technology and Biotechnology companies starting new businesses in Frederick County. In addition to the complete infrastructure, FITCI provides an array of entrepreneur programs including a formal mentorship program, business consulting, funding acquisition assistance and training and education.
